We just love spending time together... alone, with the kids, or with great friends. Here's a picture of the two of us that our babysitter took just before we went to meet our very special friends Dezi and Sabrina for dinner at Red Lobster. Tom had been on a mission to find the wildest, most colorful "cabanawear" in existence... we think he succeeded.

Here's a picture of our "Starbucks" coffee station in the kitchen/dining room. We have our coffee maker, espresso maker, and various sugar-free syrups that we use to flavor our coffee (and make snow cones). We found the perfect print to hang above the coffee stuff over at EXPO, (Home Depot's upscale home center)...but it was $160. Much more than we wanted to spend. Eva suggested that Tom paint a copy or something like it. Tom was hesitant at first (since it had been 15 years since the last time he painted on canvas) but he was so encouraged by her enthusiasm and confidence in his ability that he went ahead and did it. And this is the result...it captures the original deco style perfectly.

Here's a pic of our new refrigerator. It is one of those new funky 3-door, bottom freezer units. It's hi-tech and very cool. The old fridge was way overdue to be replaced... the timing was right and the price was right, so we got it! The whole stainless-steel and oak combination really looks great. And as we replace one unit at a time with a stainless steel one, it looks even better.

As you may remember, we have two funky, hip, and groovy hanging lights with paper shades in the living room. Although they are perfect, they had an annoying white power cord that was swagged to the wall, and dangled down to the outlet. It just didn't look as clean and neat as we wanted. Eva suggested that we get some cord covers that stick to the wall and feed the wire through that. And once painted, it wouldn't stand out as much.
Tom liked the idea, and after a bit of discussion, he asked, "why stop there? why not convert it to a wall switched fixture?!" The lights already had a thumbwheel-type switch that was very awkward to get to, and we already had a light-switch box that wasn't being used and was covered by a blank plate. So we attached the cord cover, installed one of those newstyle rocker switches onto a special surface-mount box. We spliced the wires into the light switch and ran the remaining wire down the wall and plugged it into the nearby outlet.

Here's a close-up of the light switch. It works great and looks great...far better than what it was. The funny thing is, in our bedroom redecorating we took fixed mounted fixture with a wall switch and made it a portable one with a thumbwheel switch... and here we took a portable light with a thumbwheel switch and converted it into a fixed mounted one with a wall switch.
